eBay - Have they completely lost it Down Under? Call to boycott!!

Recently eBay® & PayPal® announced (what are IMHO) some rather ridiculous and draconian measures (allegedly to protect members) for people in Australia who use these services to buy and sell products online via the eBay® service.

It comes down to this, in future, if your eBay® account is based in Australia you will no longer be able to offer direct deposit to your bank account and will be forced to accept PayPal® as the only other payment method besides cash on pick-up (too damn bad if you do not offer pick-up or have a product that does not require pick-up). Frankly this smacks of a clandestine way to boost PayPal® commissions rather than anything designed to protect buyers as is claimed.

In addition, PayPal® may delay the release of funds for up to 21 days or until the buyer leaves positive feedback. Are they kidding!!!!!!!!!?????!!!!

These measures will also affect people who have an overseas based eBay® account and wish to promote their goods and services into Australia via eBay® e.g. if you do not offer PayPal® your listing will not appear in the eBay® Australia pages and you will only be permitted to accept PayPal® for payment from Australian accounts, after which PayPal® may choose to withhold the funds for 21 days or until the buyer leaves feedback.

My suggestion, choose another platform to sell/auction your goods and services.
There are enough of them out there in just about every country. NOTE: The 21 days delay with regard to PayPal® releasing funds only applies to transactions via eBay®.

Do with this info what you will, personally I will avoid using eBay® in future, at least for sales in Australia and/or from my Australian account and anywhere else where they introduce these ridiculous new rules, and strongly encourage others to do the same.

You might want to try one of the new auction sites called www.ola.com (On Line Auction) I just joined and for $196 you become a founding member no final value fees, get unlimited listings for the 1st 12 months, guaranteed renewal rate of $96 for life, even a free store for the first year, plus many other benefits. They are becoming one of the fastest growing sites and a lot of former eBayers have switched over to them. Me included. If you do become a founding member please mention my OLA name judyb84 so can get some credit. Your products would probably do well there if they were doing well on eBbay too.Just thought this would be of interest.
